St. Petersburg Christian School

A Foundation of Faith...A Spirit of Excellence

The academically gifted child has a need to be challenged while seeing themself as a part of a peer group. St. Petersburg Christian School seeks to do both. An accelerated program is offered in Kindergarten which teaches phonics and promotes early reading. An Individualized Reading Program in Grades 1 through 8 allows children to read beyond grade level, choosing books which are both interesting and challenging. An enrichment component in Math assists in helping children to think abstractly and to develop application skills.  An Enrichment Math program is offered for Grades 3 through 5.

While A Beka spelling is accelerated, the spelling bee words create a greater challenge for the advanced learner. Science, Social Studies and Health units go beyond the textbook, incorporating projects and Internet research, giving an open-ended approach to learning.

While Middle School classes are inherently challenging, Honors Math for Grades 6-8 is one year above grade level. An additional unit of credit is given to these who take Honors Math. Students in Grades 5 and 7, who qualify, are invited to participate in Duke University's Talent Identification Program. Designed for the gifted child, the program involves testing and provides a mentoring relationship through Grade 12 for high scorers.

My husband, Jess, and I have two children who have attended SPCS since Kindergarten: our daughter, Julianna, is in 8th our son, Thomas, is in 5th. I have a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Florida, and a Master of Science in Engineering Management from the University of South Florida. I have also tutored in math through Pinellas County's Extended Learning program at North Shore Elementary, as well as privately tutoring individuals from 2nd grade to 8th grade in mathematics.

In my free time, I enjoy walking, playing tennis and college sports - Go Gators! I love listening to piano music, watching my children play volleyball and basketball, but most of all, just being with my family. I am looking forward to working with you and your child this school year!
