Visual Arts
St. Petersburg Christian School students receive specialized art instruction beginning in kindergarten. Taught by a skilled artist and educator, children are encouraged to express themselves while learning the attributes of line and form, symmetry and asymmetry. A wide variety of media are used, from tempera and watercolor to clay and acrylics. Art History is incorporated into the curriculum, giving students the opportunity to learn about the characteristics and outstanding work of many artists and periods.
While elementary children have art on a weekly basis, middle school students may choose an art elective and have instruction four times a week. For those who desire to do more, the Art After School Program provides the opportunity for special projects and learning. Bi-annual Art Shows exhibit hundreds of pieces of outstanding work of all age groups. SPCS student art is submitted to local, regional and state competitions in both secular and Christian School arenas, typically receiving accolades and awards making our students exemplary artists. |

Band
St. Petersburg Christian has a long-standing commitment to the arts, believing that literacy in the performing arts is an important part of every child's education. Our elementary curriculum requires participation in the performing arts via Third Grade Recorder and Fourth Grade Band in an atmosphere where student's talents are nurtured. Our students are encouraged to accept new challenges; to that end, Fifth Grade and Middle School students are encouraged to enroll in Band as an elective.
SPCS students are taught the skills and techniques required to play their instruments as individuals and in ensembles. They are given the opportunities to participate, perform, and compete in various concerts, auditions, and competitions around the state. Ultimately, we hope to send our students into the world as lifelong learners who embrace the performing arts with passion.
K-4 General Music
In Grades K-4, students learn different folk songs and poems from the U.S. and other countries. Classes meet for grades K-2 twice a week and once a week for grades 3-4. Time is spent experiencing music through the Orff approach, which allows students to experience music through playing instruments, movement, and singing. Students perform in two concerts per year, along with the annual SPCS Talent Show.
Musical Theater
As an elective, Fifth Grade and Middle School students who are wanting to further their knowledge and experience of music and theater can elect to enroll in Musical Theater. This class meets four times a week. Students learn all aspects of Musical Theater, including acting, singing and set design. The Musical Theater performs in two concerts per year. They are also given opportunities to perform in the local community via field trips.
Music In Motion
Music in Motion is an after-school program for grades K-8. This team meets twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays from 3:30-4:30. Students learn simple dance steps and incorporate them into songs for use in chapel. Students learn to praise God through sing and dance. |
