The SPCS Kindergarten experience provides children with a rich education centered on Christ.  Students gain a head start in early learning with our academically stimulating curriculum taught in a nurturing and positive environment. SPCS teachers provide Kindergarten students with an exceptional education that is coupled with love, encouragement, and fun.  The SPCS Kindergarten Program incorporates a challenging curriculum in: Math, Language Arts with Phonics and Reading, Writing, Bible, Science, and Social Studies.

In addition to these core learning areas, students participate in creative arts, Spanish language, computer skills, library, music, and physical education activities.  All are guided by the teacher's observations of the children to tailor the program to meet individual needs.  Frequent field trips are included to enhance the academic programs.  Students attend a weekly chapel service and have recess twice daily. Each of our Kindergarten teachers has an experienced assistant with them during the morning hours.

Our Kindergarten Team believes that the key to an excellent education lies in building a strong foundation for academic and spiritual growth.  Our Kindergarten Program is designed to do just that - all while providing a fun and nurturing learning environment.

Our First Grade Program encourages students to grow to their fullest potential. It is led by a team of Christian teachers dedicated to providing a safe, nurturing, environment where each student feels loved and successful. Each teacher has a teaching assistant during the morning hours.  Through literature, hands-on projects and activities, centers, and technology we facilitate each student's natural curiosity and allow them to discover God's goodness and His plan for their lives. Students enjoy daily praise and worship and participate in chapel once a week. Biblical integration in all subject areas helps students to apply Biblical truths in their daily lives. The use of technology in every classroom allows the students to be actively engaged in their learning and up to date with the changes in technology.  The SPCS First Grade Program incorporates a challenging curriculum in: Math, Language Arts with Phonics and Reading, Writing, Bible, Science, and Social Studies

Third grade is a "Year of Transition" as the students no longer learn to read, but read to learn! Many requirements of third grade stimulate individualized learning. Students become more organized with study skills and responsibilities. Our program encourages students to develop their God-given talents and abilities in Christian relationship as well as academics. Third grade teachers create a challenging and supportive atmosphere that focuses on individual needs to ensure the success of each student. Our classrooms are designed to provide a creative and fun environment that stimulates educational growth.  We also place great emphasis on reading, penmanship, vocabulary and spelling. Technology is a vital component of our curriculum and enhances instruction.

The Third Grade Program is founded on the core subjects of: Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and Bible.  Resource classes such as band, music, art, Spanish, physical education, computer and library skills are also fundamental components of our program. They attend weekly chapel with Fourth Grade.

The third graders also learn great lessons in economics by taking responsibility in running the school-wide "Popcorn Company". This Company earns money for our exciting Kennedy Space Center field trip.

Fourth Grade is the year where students become independent learners. At St. Petersburg Christian School, fourth graders learn how to glean information from their textbooks, collect facts and ideas from other sources, such as the Internet, and read fiction and nonfiction to gain information. It is the year where young students begin preparation for the thinking and research skills required in our Upper Division.  Our SPCS Fourth Grade Program's challenging core curriculum includes the following subjects: Bible, Language, Math, Science,  Reading, and Social Studies.

In addition to these core subjects, students enjoy several resource classes, such as band, music, P.E., Spanish, computer, and library.  Our curriculum is enhanced by field trips related to our studies - the most exciting is a trip to St. Augustine, the oldest city in our country.  Fourth Grade students have the opportunity to participate in junior varsity sports.

One of the most important goals of the SPCS Fourth Grade Program is to guide students towards being independent learners. They are taught to organize their work, practice effective study skills, and research important information in textbooks and other media. It is our desire that they have the skills to carry them successfully and independently to the grade levels ahead.

Fifth Grade begins the journey into our Upper Division. Our fifth grade classrooms are on the third floor--along with the Upper Division students.  Fifth grade students participate in the Upper Division chapel and are able to choose from multiple electives.

The SPCS Fifth Grade experience provides students with an academically challenging, Christ-centered, and fun-filled education. The students learn organizational skills and work toward independence as they transfer from one class to another for core subjects.

Students learn in a variety of ways. We use hands-on activities and cooperative learning throughout the year, in all subject areas. Students complete fun, but challenging projects to demonstrate their knowledge. We take interesting field trips that complement our studies, for example, MOSI, Busch Gardens or Sea World, Weedon Island Nature Preserve, and more. Interesting guest speakers are brought in as well.

The SPCS Fifth Grade Program incorporates a challenging, National, and State standards-based curriculum in the following core subjects: Math, Language, Bible, Science, Reading, and Social Studies.  In addition to the core subject areas above, fifth graders also participate and learn in other areas such as creative arts, Spanish language, computer skills, library and media skills, and physical education.
